Pupil Premium

At Danecourt School we believe that every child should have the opportunity to succeed and will be best able to do this if they are individually known, valued and supported in their wellbeing and academically in their learning.

Whatever a child’s starting point, however many challenges they have already or continue to face in life, we are wholeheartedly committed to doing all that we (reasonably) can to ensure that they leave us in year 6 as well-rounded, confident and successful individuals ready to start the next stage of their education.

 What is the Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is awarded with the sole purpose of:

  • Raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils (Pupil Premium) and closing any gaps compared to their non-pupil premium peers.
  • Supporting children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces.

For 2023/24 the allocated pupil premium grant is approximately £116,400 with an additional £26,940 allocated as recovery premium funding.  This brings an overall total of £141,240.

Pupil premium is a school-based grant to raise the attainment of all disadvantaged pupils and hence is not regarded or used as a personal budget.

 Context

Danecourt School is an average sized primary special school situated in Gillingham, Medway.  As of September 2024 there are 257 pupils on roll of whom 129 are identified as being entitled to pupil premium funding, which equates to 50% of the school population.

As a result of their special educational needs, all the children attending Danecourt are considered to be disadvantaged, however that does not mean that all children are entitled to pupil premium. In terms of pupil premium, pupils are considered disadvantaged as a result of them either:

'currently being in receipt of free school meals (FSM) at some point in the last 6 years, having been in receipt of FSM (Ever 6 funding) currently living in care: children looked after (CLA) or they have been previously looked after/adopted (pupil premium plus funding) being the child of a person(s) employed in the armed forces (service pupil premium)'
